My weight loss struggle

I know I haven't blogged in way too long. I am been so busy. I am blogging now because I need help. And if you are someone who sells products or services related to weight-loss I don't want to hear from you. I need the help of other people in the struggle.

If you read my column in the Daily News you know I am trying to loose a lot of weight but I keep loosing and gaining the same 10 pounds. I can't even believe how hard this is for me. Are you struggling from the same problem or are you fit and have some advice for me? Leave a comment - I need the moral support.

Happy Hour, October 6, 2006

Well Gang, I am flying high off the experience of opening for Buffy Saint Marie. You can read all about it in my column this Saturday in the Halifax Daily News. Denise and I picked her up at the air port on Friday night and then I took her to have some clams at John's lunch. It was amazing. Attached see a picture of her and I at the air port - hard to believe she is 65!!

Pink Dog Productions is shooting the pilot for The Candy Show in front of a live studio audience at the Chester Play House on November 19. Special guests will include Neville Mackay of My Mother's Bloomers fame, Ben Proudfoot (a 14 year old whiz kid magician) and local sketch comedy troupe Pic Nic Face. My musical guest will be the ECMA award winning singer/song writer Charlie A'Court. Charlie will be just returning from his latest tour in Germany and will be promoting his new CD which will drop in November. Stay tuned for information on how to get tickets.

This week we are trying something new: The French Quarter. This is a Nawlins-inspired spot that boasts being reminiscent of Moonlight on the Bayou. That means I should be able to get a wicked Hurricane. Last time I had a Hurricane, I was in our county's capital and ended up shooting "Italian Kiss" shooters with a guy named Manny - Tom, you should have some memory of that. The French Quarter is located at 171 Market street (where The Velvet Olive) used to be. See you there at 5:00. It is a Bon Voyage party for Wyatt's tonsils, which he will loose the following week!!

Don't forget the Trailer Park Boys movie drops this weekend - get out and support our local artists!! I plan to roll a big fatty and be the first in line at the box office!!

happy Hour, September 29

Greetings Gang,
Happy Hour this week is at The Old Triangle. Later Friday night, Garret Mason is playing at Bearly's - if I can convince Denise, we may be taking that in. Then don't forget Sunday night - I'm opening for Buffy Saint Marie at the Casino - tickets are $25 and still available.

Happy Birthday to my cousin Donna who turns 25 AGAIN tomorrow!!

Of course, my skin is still puckered from being rained on for 8 hours during The Stones show - BUT, I'll be up at 9 AM in order to get my Guns n Roses tickets - okay so its only Rose in terms of the originals, but reviews of recent shows are good - he has apparently lost that God awful stomach and is in fine form. Do you know where you are? You're in the jungle baby!!....and on Nov. 20, I will be too. Eat your heart out my fellow Bangers (and all of you former Bangers who have domesticated yourselves - you know who you are)!!

Okay, quote of the week - only because Heather is still giving me a hard time about my cat hating article (Check this out, she thinks my dog eating the neighbor's cow is the same as the neighbor's cat digging up my pansy's - OBVIOUSLY, she doesn't know how I feel about my Pansy's - I mean the neighbor hadn't even named his cow!!) Anyway, in her honour here is a quote from George Orwell:

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was which."

See you Friday!

Happy Hour, September 22, 2006

Greetings Gang,
I have some fabulous news this week!! On October 1, 7:30 PM, at the Halifax Casino, Schooner Room, I will be opening for world famous, Academy Award Winning recording artist, Buffy Saint Marie!! I can barely see straight I'm so excited. Tickets are on sale now at Casino Nova Scotia for $24.98.

And for those of you who are keeping track, over the past year and a little bit, Wyatt has bought and sold three homes, and I have dined in each. And in the time it took Wyatt to do all that, Heather has still not shown me her first house....but as Margaret Mitchell so aptly ended her epic, Gone With The Wind:

"Afterall, tomorrow is another day."

Something a little different this week. I thought we would shoot a little pool while enjoying our after work drink. We are meeting at Locas Bar and Billiards, which is located at 5187 Salter Street. So, if you feel like a drink, something to eat, or shooting some stick - I'll see you there at 4:30 on Friday!!

Candy

PS: And to my student friends (ie, Kara and Jarvis), don't let little things like law school and med school get in the way of your priorities - sipping cocktails with me.....miss you!!

Happy Hour, September 15, 2006

Greetings Gang,

Hope you all had a great weekend. Denise and I ended up not going on the Silva, as the date had changed and we didn't know it! Although it was fun getting a boat full of strangers to return to dock, Denise found it a pit embarrassing. Alas, happy hour lasted until 2:00 AM.

On Saturday I ended up going to the beach with Denise, Wyatt and John on Saturday night for an illegal bon-fire. I'm proud to say that Johnnie Hart and I braved the waters and went for a moonlight dip in the Ocean!! What a cure for a hangover that proved to be.

I am sending the happy hour email out early this week because I am off to Membertou to star in the Second Annual Atlantic Canada Entrepreneurship Awards Show and then have work at White Point for a couple of days, so I won't be back at my desk until the day of happy hour.

I couldn't wait that long because I want lots of you to show up this week. My brother Guy and his wife Donna are coming to town and they will be at Happy Hour on Friday at Stayner's Wharf. We haven't done a happy hour at Stayner's in a while, but the Friday night extravaganza draws are happening again and someone from our crowd always seems to win something. Also, you know they have the best service in town and some damn good food too!

I'm hoping many of you will show, so I'm going to ask Todd to reserve the front section for me. See you all there - 4:30 Friday. Most of you read so much about my family, so here is your chance to meet two members of it!!

I'm totally on an Alan Clark kick and this week, I'm including two quotes of his that appeal to me. I often get really scary hatemail about my writing and my comedy show. These two quotes of his make me feel better:

"If you have bright plumage, people will take pot shots at you."

"Safe is spelled D-U-L-L."

Gotta love it, I'm off to board my plane to Membertou, hope to see you all on Friday at Stayner's Wharf.
